Influencer marketing for a hotel, resort or tourism brand is hosting or paying creators so that their audience books a room, a day pass, a brunch table, a spa slot or a tour at your property. It works when the creator's followers live in a market you can sell to, and it fails when they do not, however good the video looks. This playbook is for marketing and PR managers at hotels, resorts, beach clubs, desert camps, tour operators, attractions and serviced apartments in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, Riyadh, Jeddah, AlUla and the Red Sea.
What does influencer marketing actually do for a hotel?
A hotel sells more than rooms, and creators can move each line separately. Decide which line you are filling before you invite anyone.
- Staycation demand from residents. Weekend and summer packages sold to people who already live in the UAE or Saudi Arabia.
- GCC drive-in and fly-in weekends. Saudi, Kuwaiti and Qatari guests coming into Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah, and UAE residents travelling to AlUla, the Red Sea, Riyadh and Jeddah.
- Outlets. Restaurants, brunch, afternoon tea, beach and pool day passes, spa. These sell to residents all year.
- Long-haul inbound. Guests from Europe, South Asia and the CIS who choose the destination first and the hotel second.
- Weddings and events. Low volume, high value per booking.
Separate the resident goal from the inbound goal
These are two different campaigns. A resident campaign needs creators whose followers live within a drive of the property, an offer with a price, and a booking link. An inbound campaign needs creators whose followers live in your source markets, content that sells the destination and the room together, and a longer booking window. Mixing them serves neither. If your outlets are the priority, the restaurant and café playbook for Dubai and Riyadh explains table covers and promo codes in detail.
Why is audience country the first thing to check?
A travel creator with 300K followers who mostly live outside your source markets fills no rooms. Travel accounts attract a global audience, so a Dubai-based creator can have most followers in countries you have never sold to. Ask for the audience country and city breakdown before you discuss dates.
For inbound, match creators to where your guests already come from. Dubai's Department of Economy and Tourism reported 19.59 million international overnight visitors in 2025. Western Europe was the largest source region at about 21%, followed by CIS and Eastern Europe, South Asia and the GCC at about 15% each, with the wider MENA region at about 11%. Your own property mix will differ, so pull the top ten nationalities from your PMS and use that list instead of the city average.
| Goal | Audience location you need | Creator base | Language |
|---|---|---|---|
| UAE staycation, day pass, brunch, spa | 60% or more in the UAE, ideally your emirate and the next one | UAE-resident lifestyle, family and food creators | English, or English with Arabic overlay |
| Saudi domestic weekend (AlUla, Red Sea, Jeddah, Riyadh) | Majority in Saudi Arabia, by city where possible | Saudi family and travel creators, strong on Snapchat | Khaleeji Arabic |
| GCC summer, Eid and school-holiday travel into the UAE | Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar | Khaleeji family travel creators | Khaleeji Arabic |
| Long-haul inbound | Your top source countries, typically the UK, Germany, India, Russia and the CIS | Creators based in, or followed from, those countries | The source market's language |

What does a hosted stay really cost, and when should you pay a fee instead?
A hosted stay is never free. Count the room nights, breakfast or half board, any spa treatment or activity, transfers, and staff time. In high season, add the opportunity cost: a room given to a creator on a sold-out weekend costs you the full rate you would have sold it for. In low season the real cost is closer to housekeeping, amenities and food cost. So host in low and shoulder season, and pay fees in peak.
| Tier | Typical hosted package | UAE Reel fee anchor | KSA Reel fee anchor | How it is usually structured |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nano (under 10K) | Day pass or brunch for two, or 1 night with breakfast | AED 350 to 1,500 | SAR 400 to 1,500 | Hosted only |
| Micro (10K to 50K) | 1 to 2 nights, breakfast or half board | AED 1,500 to 6,000 | SAR 1,500 to 7,000 | Hosted in low season; hosted plus a small fee for a dated Reel with a booking link |
| Mid (50K to 250K) | 2 nights, half board, one experience | AED 6,000 to 25,000 | SAR 7,000 to 30,000 | Stay plus fee; the stay is part of the production, not the payment |
| Macro (250K+) | 2 to 3 nights, suite, full itinerary | AED 25,000 to 90,000 | SAR 30,000 to 110,000 | Fee, contract, usage rights priced separately (30 to 100% uplift) |
Full rate cards are in the influencer rates guide for the UAE, Saudi Arabia and MENA.
What to agree in writing before check-in
- Deliverables. For example 1 Reel, 5 Story frames with the booking link sticker, 10 edited photos. With numbers, not "coverage".
- Posting window. Stories during the stay, the Reel within 7 days of check-out.
- What is included. Room type, board basis, one spa treatment, one activity. Minibar, extra outlets and extra guests are charged.
- Plus-one policy. One guest, named in advance. Children by agreement. No entourage.
- Blackout dates. Eid, New Year, long weekends and any night you forecast above a set occupancy.
- Usage rights. Whether you can repost, and whether you can run the content as paid ads, for how long and on which platforms.
- Tracking and disclosure. The creator's booking link or code, and the #ad or #إعلان line.
- No-show and no-post terms. What happens if the content does not go live.
A one-page agreement is enough for a hosted stay. Start from our influencer contract template for the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The logic matches product seeding, covered in the influencer gifting and product seeding guide.
How to filter "stay in exchange for exposure" requests
Every Gulf property receives these weekly, mostly from accounts whose audience cannot book you. Send every request to one form, score it, and reply with a yes, a no, or a day-pass offer instead of a room.
- Audience country. Does 50 to 60% or more of the audience live in a market you sell to? If not, stop here.
- Niche fit. Is the feed travel, family, food, couples or lifestyle, with hotel content you would want to sit next to?
- Engagement. Inside the typical band for the tier: nano 4 to 8%, micro 3 to 6%, mid 2 to 4%, macro 1 to 2%.
- Real comments and saves. Followers asking the price and where the place is, not rows of emojis.
- Past results. Can they show link clicks or code uses from another property?
- Dates. Are they asking for a low-occupancy date, or for Eid weekend?
- Permit. If any fee is involved, do they hold a UAE Advertiser Permit or Saudi Mawthooq?
Score each point 0 to 2. In our experience anything under 9 out of 14 is a polite no.
Which creators work for hotels and tourism brands?
| Creator type | Best for | Platform | Typical cost basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Staycation and family creators (resident) | Weekend and summer packages, kids club, family rooms | Instagram, TikTok | Hosted, or hosted plus a small fee |
| Couples and luxury travel creators | Suites, villas, honeymoons, inbound markets | Instagram, YouTube | Stay plus fee |
| Food creators | Restaurants, brunch, iftar, afternoon tea | Instagram, TikTok | Hosted meal, fee for a dated Reel |
| Khaleeji family travel creators | Saudi, Kuwaiti and Qatari guests for summer, Eid and school holidays | Snapchat first, then Instagram and TikTok | Stay plus fee; Snapchat story sequences priced separately |
| UGC creators | Vertical video for your own Meta, TikTok and Snapchat ads, and for your booking pages | Not posted on their account | $100 to 600 per video, paid usage extra |
| Drone and cinematic creators | Brand assets: aerials, room films, destination edits | Delivered as files, sometimes posted | Day rate or project fee, permits on top |
For Saudi guests, plan for Snapchat: it reaches around 9 in 10 of eligible Saudi adults. See the Snapchat influencer marketing in Saudi Arabia guide. If you need ad creative, not reach, hire UGC creators and keep the rooms for guests, as explained in UGC creators versus influencers in the GCC.
When should hotels and tourism brands run creator campaigns?
Host when you have empty rooms and need demand. Pay when the date matters.
- UAE summer staycations (June to September). Occupancy and rates drop, residents look for deals, and you have rooms to host. Bring creators in from late May so content is live when the offers launch. Dubai Summer Surprises, typically late June to the end of August, adds retail and family traffic.
- Winter peak (roughly November to March). Rooms are full, so stop hosting on weekends and use creators for outlets, day passes and midweek. Dubai Shopping Festival typically runs December into January.
- Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha breaks. The main GCC fly-in and drive-in weekends. Khaleeji family creators should post 3 to 5 weeks before, when families book.
- School holidays. UAE and Saudi school calendars differ. Check both before you set dates for family offers.
- Ramadan. Iftar and suhoor tents are an outlet campaign with a fixed window. Book food creators 6 to 8 weeks ahead and show the set price and booking link.
- Saudi Seasons. Riyadh Season typically opens in October and runs through the winter. Hotels near the zones should run their heaviest paid activity here.
The Saudi tourism push
Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 tourism target is 150 million visits a year by 2030, domestic and international combined. The Ministry of Tourism reported about 122 million in 2025. For a Saudi property, domestic travellers are the larger part of the volume, so Saudi-audience creators come first. New destinations such as AlUla and the Red Sea still need content that explains how to get there and what it costs. The influencer marketing in Saudi Arabia guide covers the creator market city by city.
What rules apply to hosted stays, flown-in creators and drone filming?
- UAE Advertiser Permit. Issued by the UAE Media Council and mandatory from 1 February 2026 for paid advertising. Free for citizens and residents for three years, then about AED 1,000 a year. No follower threshold. Ask every paid creator for the permit number.
- Flown-in creators. A creator visiting from abroad cannot use the resident route. Visitors are covered through a licensed agency in the UAE, for up to three months. Arrange this before the trip, not at check-in.
- Saudi Mawthooq. Issued by the General Authority for Media Regulation, SAR 15,000 for three years, with penalties up to SAR 5M. Non-Saudis work through a commercial register or a licensed agency. Put the number in the contract.
- Disclosure. A hosted stay is a benefit. Content should carry #ad or #إعلان and the paid-partnership label, whether or not a fee was paid.
- Drone filming. In the UAE, drones and pilots are registered with the General Civil Aviation Authority, and commercial flights in Dubai also need Dubai Civil Aviation Authority approval, often with a film permit. In Saudi Arabia, drones are registered with the General Authority of Civil Aviation and commercial filming needs its permit. UAE drone permissions have been restricted and reopened more than once, so confirm the current status and ask the creator for the paperwork before you brief aerials.
- Guest privacy. Under the UAE cybercrime law (Federal Decree-Law 34 of 2021), photographing people without their consent is an offence, with fines from AED 150,000 to 500,000 and possible detention. There is no general public-place exception. Saudi Arabia also penalises filming people without permission. Give creators an early-morning filming slot at the pool and beach, keep other guests out of frame, and have a team member present.
- Alcohol. No alcohol content in Saudi Arabia. In the UAE, keep it out of creator content unless legal has cleared it, including brunch and beach club footage.
Permit detail, fees and who needs what are in the UAE Advertiser Permit and Saudi Mawthooq guide.
How do you measure whether creators filled rooms?
Measure per creator, on the direct channel. Four numbers matter.
- Tracked booking links. Each creator gets a link to the offer page with UTMs that carry through to the booking engine. Check that UTM parameters survive the jump from your site to the booking engine domain. Many setups drop them. The method is in the influencer tracking links and UTM guide.
- Promo codes on the direct channel. A code that only works on your own website gives followers a reason to book direct. Without one, many will see the Reel and book on an OTA: you pay the commission and the creator gets no credit. Expect this leakage and watch total bookings for the period, not only coded ones.
- Outlet covers and day passes. A code or the creator's name at booking, logged in the reservations system.
- Content asset value. Licensed videos and photos you would otherwise commission. A UGC video costs $100 to 600 in the GCC, so ten usable clips have a real replacement value.
Worked example: UAE summer staycation campaign
A beach resort in Ras Al Khaimah, eight creators, six weeks, one resident offer with a direct-booking code. These are typical ranges we see, not guarantees.
| Line | Detail | Typical range |
|---|---|---|
| 5 hosted micro creators (family and staycation) | 2 nights half board each, low-season real cost AED 600 to 900 per stay | AED 3,000 to 4,500 |
| 2 paid micro Reels with booking link | AED 3,000 to 5,000 each, plus the stay | AED 6,000 to 10,000 |
| 1 UGC creator, 3 ad videos | $100 to 600 per video base fee, paid usage extra | AED 1,100 to 6,600 |
| Total cost | Cash plus real cost of stays | AED 10,100 to 21,100 |
| Tracked link clicks | All creators, six weeks | 1,500 to 4,000 |
| Direct bookings with a creator code | Average booking AED 1,400 to 2,200 for 2 nights | 25 to 70 bookings |
| Cost per coded booking | Total cost divided by coded bookings | AED 150 to 850 |
In most campaigns two or three of the eight creators produce most of the bookings. Rebook those, drop the rest, and compare the cost per booking with your OTA commission on the same room. The wider method is in the influencer marketing ROI measurement framework.
Frequently asked questions
Should a hotel pay travel creators or only offer a hosted stay?
Host nano and micro creators in low and shoulder season, when the room would otherwise be empty, with deliverables agreed in writing. Pay a fee on top of the stay when you need a mid-tier or larger creator, a fixed posting date, a booking link in the caption, or usage rights for your own ads. Most properties run a mix: mostly hosted stays, a few paid posts per quarter.
How many followers should a creator have before a hotel hosts them?
Follower count is the wrong first filter. Check audience country first. For a staycation offer you want 60% or more of the audience living in the UAE, or in Saudi Arabia for a Saudi property. A 20K creator with a resident audience will sell more weekend packages than a 300K travel account whose followers live in countries you do not sell to. Then check engagement, typically 3 to 6% for micro accounts.
Does a hosted hotel stay have to be disclosed as advertising?
Yes. A free stay is a benefit, so the content should carry #ad or #إعلان and the paid-partnership label, the same as a paid post. If the creator is also paid a fee in the UAE, ask for their Advertiser Permit number. In Saudi Arabia, ask for the Mawthooq number. Write the disclosure line into the hosted-stay agreement before check-in.
How far ahead should a hotel book creators for peak periods?
Book 6 to 8 weeks ahead for Ramadan iftar and suhoor, Eid breaks and the winter peak. For UAE summer staycation offers, host creators in late May and early June so the content is live when residents start planning. Creators who perform well fill their calendars early, and rates rise close to the date.
