A UAE National Day influencer campaign is a set of creator posts, planned around Eid Al Etihad on 2 December, that celebrates the union respectfully and, where relevant, promotes a licensed offer. This post covers what Eid Al Etihad is and when the 2026 holiday falls, the rules on the flag, the official logo and leaders' images, when to use Emirati or expat creators, content ideas, a timeline from late October to 3 December, an AED budget, Dubai sale permits, measurement, and a calendar of every GCC national day.
What is Eid Al Etihad and when is it in 2026?
Eid Al Etihad is the official name of UAE National Day. It marks 2 December 1971, the day the emirates united as one country. In 2026 it is the 55th anniversary of the union.
At the time of writing, the public holiday is set for Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 December 2026. Since 2025, UAE rules allow some public holidays to be moved next to the weekend, so check the final Cabinet announcement before you lock posting dates. If the holiday joins the weekend, many residents get a four or five day break, which changes when people are home, travelling or shopping.
Where it sits in the Q4 calendar
- White Friday: Friday 27 November 2026, five days before National Day.
- Eid Al Etihad: Wednesday 2 December 2026, holiday 2 and 3 December.
- Dubai Shopping Festival: the 2026 to 2027 edition is expected to start in mid December, based on past editions. Official dates had not been confirmed at the time of writing.
These three moments fall within about three weeks. Creators, media and shoppers are all busy at once. If you are also planning White Friday, read our White Friday influencer campaign plan for the GCC and run one booking process for both.
What rules apply to the UAE flag, logo and national symbols?
National Day content is judged more strictly than normal promotional content. The rules below are the ones brands most often break.
The UAE flag
- UAE flag protocol says the flag must not be used for commercial purposes, as a trademark or part of a trademark, or for advertising and publicity, without permission from the authorities.
- The flag must not be printed on disposable items such as napkins, boxes or packaging.
- Nothing may be added to the flag: no text, logos, pins or designs.
- The flag must not be wrapped around objects or used to cover vehicles, furniture or products.
- Damaging or insulting the flag carries heavy criminal penalties under federal law.
In practice, a creator can film a real flag displayed at home, on a building or at a public celebration. The flag should not appear in the same frame as your product, logo, price or discount code. Do not ask creators to hold a flag and a product together.
The national emblem
UAE federal law prohibits using the national emblem for commercial or advertising purposes without prior permission. The UAE trademark law also blocks the use of state flags, emblems and symbols, or imitations of them, unless authorised. Keep the falcon emblem out of all branded content.
The official Eid Al Etihad identity
Each year the Eid Al Etihad organisers publish brand guidelines on eidaletihad.ae, with the official logo, colour palettes and typefaces. The published rules say the logo must not be stretched, recoloured, rotated, translated, combined with other logos or used as decoration. Download the current year's guidelines and read the section on who may use the logo before you add it to any sponsored post. If in doubt, leave the logo out and use your own brand design in the flag colours.
Leaders' images and AI content
The UAE media content standards require all content, including advertising, to respect the country's symbols, institutions and national identity. The UAE Media Council has warned that using AI to depict national symbols or public figures without prior approval breaks those standards. Do not use images of the rulers in sponsored content, do not generate them with AI, and do not place them next to products. Fines under the media law can reach AED 1 million.
Tone
- Lead with gratitude, heritage and community. Keep the offer second.
- No jokes about national symbols, traditional dress or religion.
- No wording that suggests a government endorsement of your brand.
- Traditional dress should be worn correctly and by people it belongs to. Do not dress expat creators in kandura or abaya as a costume.
Which creators fit a National Day campaign: Emirati or expat?
Expats are about 90% of UAE residents, so most creators you find in the UAE are not Emirati. Both groups can work on National Day content, but they should speak from their own position. An expat creator should not narrate Emirati heritage as if it were their own.
| Creator type | Best fit | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Emirati creators | Heritage, family traditions, local food, stories about the union, Arabic-language lead content | Heavy discount pushes that make the day look commercial |
| Long-term expat creators | Gratitude posts, community, life in the UAE, road trips, family days out | Wearing traditional dress, explaining Emirati customs |
| Food and restaurant creators | Emirati dishes, local cafes, National Day menus | Serving food on flag-printed tableware |
| Travel and outdoor creators | Long-weekend road trips to Hatta, Jebel Jais, Liwa, Al Ain | Filming at restricted or military sites |
| UGC creators | Product videos for your ads, filmed without national symbols | Posting on their own accounts as if they were influencers |
A common structure is one or two Emirati creators for the lead heritage pieces, plus five to ten expat micro creators for community and offer content. For more on the UAE creator market, see our influencer marketing guide for Dubai and the UAE.
What content works for UAE National Day?
The posts that perform are specific and personal. Generic flag graphics with a discount code do not.
- Heritage: a visit to Al Fahidi, Qasr Al Hosn or a heritage village, with the creator explaining one thing they learned.
- Local makers: a feature on an Emirati designer, farm, perfumer or cafe that the brand works with or stocks.
- Family: a family day out, a grandparent's memory of the early years of the union, a home celebration.
- Road trips: a long-weekend route across several emirates with stops, costs and timings.
- Food: Emirati dishes such as luqaimat, harees or machboos, cooked at home or ordered from a local restaurant.
- Gratitude: an expat creator on what the UAE has given them, with years and specifics.
- Product tie-in: a limited National Day edition, a donation per sale, or a licensed offer mentioned at the end.
Arabic content should be in Emirati or Gulf dialect, not Egyptian or Levantine. For English content aimed at residents, keep the Arabic greeting and a short English line. Put these points in your brief using our influencer brief template, with a clear list of what must not appear on screen.
What is the timeline from late October to 3 December?
Work backwards from 2 December. Leave extra time because White Friday lands in the same fortnight.
| Date | Task |
|---|---|
| 20 to 31 October | Set goal, budget and offer. Apply for any sale permit you need. Download the current Eid Al Etihad guidelines. |
| 1 to 7 November | Shortlist creators, check audience country and Advertiser Permit status, send outreach and briefs. |
| 8 to 14 November | Sign contracts, agree usage rights, ship products, issue tracking links and codes. |
| 15 to 24 November | Creators film. Review scripts and first drafts for flag, emblem and logo use. |
| 25 November | Final approvals. Lock posting schedule. |
| 27 November | White Friday. Keep National Day posts separate from White Friday posts. |
| 28 November to 1 December | Teaser and long-weekend planning content: road trips, what to do, where to eat. |
| 2 December | Lead heritage and gratitude posts go live in the morning. |
| 3 December | Family and day-out content, offer reminders, Stories reposts. |
| 4 to 10 December | Collect results, pay creators, close the report before Dubai Shopping Festival planning. |
How much should a National Day influencer campaign cost in AED?
Rates rise in late November because demand from White Friday and National Day overlaps. Book early to stay near normal rates. The example below uses the Instagram Reel ranges we see in the UAE: nano AED 350 to 1,500, micro AED 1,500 to 6,000, mid AED 6,000 to 25,000.
| Line item | Quantity | Typical cost (AED) |
|---|---|---|
| Emirati mid-tier creator, 1 Reel + 3 Stories | 1 | 12,000 to 25,000 |
| Micro creators, 1 Reel each | 6 | 12,000 to 30,000 |
| Nano creators, Stories or 1 Reel each | 10 | 5,000 to 12,000 |
| UGC videos for paid ads | 4 | 1,500 to 8,800 |
| Paid ads usage rights (30 days) | on selected Reels | +25 to 100% of those fees |
| Product seeding and delivery | 17 creators | 2,000 to 6,000 |
| Paid boost of best posts | 2 to 3 posts | 5,000 to 15,000 |
| Total | about 40,000 to 100,000 |
A smaller brand can run a useful version with 8 to 10 nano and micro creators for AED 10,000 to 25,000. For full rate tables by platform and country, see our influencer rates guide for the UAE, Saudi Arabia and MENA.
What sale and licensing rules apply to National Day offers?
Dubai sales promotion permits
In Dubai, every discount campaign needs a sales promotion permit from the Department of Economy and Tourism (DET). This includes promo codes shared by creators. Key points:
- Get a separate permit for each campaign. Any change or extension needs prior DET approval.
- Discounts must be real reductions from the recent selling price, and the original and sale prices must be shown.
- Dubai discount permits have commonly required a discount between 25% and 75%. Confirm the current conditions when you apply.
- Fines for running a promotion without a permit have been reported at AED 10,000.
Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the other emirates have their own economic departments and permit processes. If you sell across the UAE online, check with each authority where you trade.
UAE Advertiser Permit
Since 1 February 2026, anyone who promotes products or services on social media in the UAE, paid or unpaid, needs an Advertiser Permit from the UAE Media Council. It is free for citizens and residents for the first three years. Visitors advertise through a licensed agency. Ask every creator for their permit before you sign. Our guide to the UAE influencer licence and Saudi Mawthooq covers the details.
Disclosure
Paid posts must be clearly marked as advertising. Use the platform's paid partnership label and a clear ad marker in the caption, in the same language as the post.
How do you measure a National Day campaign?
Set one main goal before you brief creators. Heritage content usually drives reach and saves, while offer content drives clicks and sales. Judge each on its own goal.
- Awareness: reach, views, and views from UAE-based accounts. Check audience country before booking, because many UAE creators have large audiences in India, Egypt or the Philippines.
- Engagement: saves, shares and comments per 1,000 views. Saves are a strong signal for road-trip and food content.
- Traffic and sales: one tracking link and one code per creator, with sales counted from 28 November to 10 December.
- Content value: which Reels you can reuse as ads for Dubai Shopping Festival.
Separate National Day results from White Friday results by using different links and codes for each. Otherwise you cannot tell which moment drove which sale.
When are the other GCC national days?
Brands running across the Gulf can plan a year of national day campaigns. The dates below are fixed Gregorian dates. Holiday lengths can change year to year.
| Country | Occasion | Date | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saudi Arabia | Founding Day | 22 February | Marks the founding of the first Saudi state in 1727 |
| Kuwait | National Day and Liberation Day | 25 and 26 February | Two consecutive days, often one long celebration |
| Saudi Arabia | Saudi National Day | 23 September | Largest national day in the GCC by ad spend |
| Oman | National Day | 20 and 21 November | Moved from 18 November by royal decree in January 2025 |
| UAE | Eid Al Etihad | 2 December | Holiday 2 and 3 December 2026 |
| Bahrain | National Day | 16 and 17 December | Close to Dubai Shopping Festival and year-end sales |
| Qatar | Qatar National Day | 18 December | Heavy outdoor and family activity |
The same respect rules apply in each country: national flags, emblems and leaders' images are protected, and licensing rules differ. For Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain, see our influencer marketing guide for Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain. For Saudi Arabia, creators need a Mawthooq licence and discounts need a licence from the Ministry of Commerce.
Frequently asked questions
When is UAE National Day 2026?
Eid Al Etihad falls on Wednesday 2 December 2026 and marks the 55th anniversary of the union. The public holiday is set for 2 and 3 December 2026. Check the final Cabinet announcement, because UAE rules now allow some holidays to be moved next to the weekend.
Can a brand use the UAE flag in an influencer ad?
Not without permission. UAE flag rules say the flag must not be used for commercial purposes, as a trademark or for advertising and publicity. Creators can film real flags displayed at homes or public celebrations, but the flag should not sit next to your product, logo or discount code.
Do I need a permit to run a National Day sale in Dubai?
Yes. Dubai requires a sales promotion permit from the Department of Economy and Tourism for each discount campaign, including promo codes shared by creators. Fines for promotions without a permit have been reported at AED 10,000. Other emirates have their own economic departments and rules.
Should I hire Emirati creators or expat creators for National Day?
Use Emirati creators for heritage, family traditions and anything that speaks about the country from the inside. Use expat creators for gratitude, community, food, travel and offer-led content aimed at residents. Most brands run a mix, with Emirati creators on the lead pieces.
How far in advance should I book creators for Eid Al Etihad?
Book by early November at the latest. Popular UAE creators are busy with White Friday on 27 November and National Day in the same two weeks, so briefs should go out in the first week of November and drafts should be approved by 25 November.
